There are many ways to heat a swimming pool and generally the best choice will be determined by the availability of an energy source, and the costs in running this to the position of the plant room.
The energy source is free; you just have to collect it. The pool water is run through black collectors that convert heat and light into heat in your pool water. It is paramount however that you stop circulating the water at the point where no solar gain is available.
On budget systems, this is down to you controlling it manually, or using a time clock that only lets the system run during daylight hours, especially those with higher temperatures.
On more complex, but therefore more expensive systems, you will have a sensor, control system and motorised valaves or seperate pumps. Which only work when there is a benefit for you.
Essentially this is a large electric kettle, plumbed in after the filtration system. They are 100% efficient, if you put 1kw of power in, you get 1kw of heat in your pool. They can be expensive to run, and most are controlled so that they work during the economy 7 period of charges. It can therefore take a few days to get a pool up to temperature.
The heaters must have certain controls, a thermostat, a high limit stat and a pressure switch or preferably a flow switch.
Premium Elecro Swimming Pool Heaters
Premium Elecro Heaters are not the cheapest Above Ground Pool Heater we sell but they are by far the most reliable and trustworthy. If you want a Pool Heater that is British Made, fully equipped and pre-wired with many safety features not included in other Swimming Pool heaters, including flow switch (no pump interlock required), twin thermostats and contactor then this is the one for you.
Premium Elecro Pool Heaters have been designed specifically for Above Ground Swimming Pools and as with all Pool Heaters will only work when the Swimming Pool Pump is on. An electric heater cannot heat pools that do not have a filter pump.
With these easy to fit Elecro Pool Heaters we supply two hose tails that will join the pool heater to the corrugated pool hose that is supplied with all above ground pools to carry the water through the pump and filter. All that needs to be done is to connect the pool heater to the correct electrical supply; obviously a qualified and certified electrician should carry this out.
The 3kW heaters can be connected to the mains via a standard 13 amp plug in conjunction with an RCD, but any larger electric pool heaters will need to be hard wired in and a cable run from it’s own spur also RCD protected. After the electricity supply is fitted the Elecro Pool Heater is connected by cutting one of the flat cuffs on the corrugated hose and attaching to either end of the Elecro pool heater using the Hose Tails we supply. Easy.
The Elecro Pool Heater should be sited after the water has passed through the Pool Pump & Filter on the way back into the pool and secured to a base so that it cannot topple over. A plank of wood is ideal. It is essential to have an inverted U bend in the corrugated pipe after it has left the pool heater, this ensures that if there is a malfunction with your filter pump the Elecro Pool Heater will act like a sump and the element will not burn out. Running the hose over a brick or block works exceptionally well. But don’t worry we include all these details and more with every heater we sell.
Pool Heaters do not flash heat water as an electric shower would, so the heater will need to run for a few hours a day to increase the temperature. A solar cover is essential if you have a heater as they will not only help heat the pool by up to 8°C on their own but more importantly it will help retain the heat. Our Solar covers can retain up to 66% of the heat, which will obviously save you a great deal of money.
